Creating an at-home workout space can be tricky, especially if you don’t have a designated space that can stay set up at all times. However, you don’t need your front room to look like your local gym to keep fit. From advanced athlete to fitness newbie, you can exercise at home with a few pieces of easily accessible equipment, effortlessly turning an area of your home into an effective space for workout routines. The following four pieces of equipment provide a fantastic foundation from which to launch your new home-based fitness journey from.
Before you even start your exercises you'll want to make sure that you have the right kit. Check out our activewear section to find plenty of leggings, workout tops, hoodies and gym shorts that suit your style. Let's be honest, the most exciting part of the workout is the getting ready part, everyone wants a matching legging/sports bra set, or even a matching shorts and t-shirt combo for the boys. I'm sure there'll be something to your liking on our site!

1 - FITNESS MAT

Don’t underestimate the versatility of a fitness mat. Find a yoga or Pilates class online to flow along to for a great at-home workout. Fitness mats can also be the foundation of many full body exercises that can be done just using your own body weight. Our favorite exercises to create a full body workout are below, which when repeated four times, will guarantee that you feel the burn. Furthermore, additional weights can be added to these to make this routine more challenging.
- 20 bridge raises
- 15 squats
- 10 push-ups (or half push-ups)
- 20 lunges on each leg
- 40 second plank
- 20 crunches

2 - RESISTANCE BANDS

These essential bands give extra resistance to body weight exercises, making them tougher, highly challenging and more effective. Adding a resistance band can help to engage all of your major muscle groups. They are lightweight, easy to pack away and are affordable, making them an absolute must for your workout at home.
There are many benefits of resistance bands including:
- Helping to tone & strengthen your muscles
- Great for stretching
- Lightweight and portable
- Suitable for almost everyone, as there are different weights of bands, allowing for full adjustment according to personal preference

3 - EXERCISE BALL

An exercise ball is great to add to an at-home workout routine. They help balance by engaging your core and other muscles to stabilise yourself during exercises. They can make workouts a lot more challenging and interesting and are a more convenient and portable purchase than a gym bench. Exercise balls are also great for stretching on the rounded smooth surface.

4 - SKIPPING ROPE

All you need is a ceiling tall enough or some outside space and you can add in some skipping rope exercise to your home workout. It’s one of the best forms of cardio you can do and tones the muscles in your lower and upper body. It’s a cheap, portable and versatile addition to your at-home circuit. Plus it can be used as a warm-up or as an exercise itself.
Whichever equipment you decide to incorporate into your home fitness routine, remember to challenge yourself and feel the burn!
